     Gerald John Lloyd Burton was born on 9 September 1893.1 He was the son of William Fitzwilliam Burton and Georgina Spencer Wellesley.2 He married Moselle Caine in 1928.1 He and Moselle Caine were divorced in 1936.1 He married, secondly, Juliana Egidia Petre, daughter of Lt.-Col. Bernard James Petre and Hon. Ruby Alexandrina Elizabeth Thellusson, in December 1943.1 He died on 27 June 1954 at age 60, without issue.1
     He was educated at St. Lawrence College, Ramsgate, Kent, EnglandG.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was wounded.1 In 1914 joined HAC.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the King's Royal Rifle Corps.1 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.) and bar.1 He graduated from Pembroke College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, in 1920 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He was a plant breeder with the Department of Agriculture, Kenya.1 He founded Egerton Agricutural College, Kenya.1
