     He was educated at Bedford College, London, EnglandG.1 He was educated at King's College London, London, EnglandG.1 He fought in the Boer War, where he was severely wounded.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches twice.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1916.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Indian Army.1 He was Colonel of the RIASC Records between 1932 and 1935.1

     Major William lan Campbell was born on 8 February 1918.1 He was the son of Colonel William Campbell and Dorothy East Lyne.2 He married Margaret Elizabeth Heiten, daughter of Gustavo Walter Heiten, on 12 August 1946.1 He died in February 1997 at Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England.3
