     Edith Gladys Fernandes Lewis was born on 3 July 1880 at Rock Ferry, Cheshire, England.1 She married Joseph Harold Birley, son of Herbert Birley and Cicley Margaret Birley, on 12 July 1898 at Rainhill, Lancashire, England.1 She died on 16 August 1976 at age 96 at Didsbury, Lancashire, England.1
     From 12 July 1898, her married name became Birley.1
