     James Patrick Murray was born on 10 October 1906.¹ He was the son of Colonel Edward Rushworth Blakiston Murray and Hilda Dorothea Paul.² He married Margaret Ruth Buchanan, daughter of Reverend Alfred Edward Buchanan, on 21 May 1934.¹ He died on 8 January 1993 at age 86.¹
     He was educated at St. Edward's School, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.¹ He graduated from Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1928 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.).¹ He was Commissioner of Northern Rhodesia in UK.¹ He was Senior Provincial Commissioner of Northern Rhodesia.¹ He was invested as a Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1958.¹
