Maj.-Gen. William Nairne Forbes1

     Maj.-Gen. William Nairne Forbes was born on 3 April 1796 at Blackford, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.1,2 He was the son of John Forbes of Blackford and Anna Margaretta Gregory.3 He married Sarah Greenlaw, daughter of Charles Bartlett Greenlaw, in 1836.1 He died on 1 May 1855 at age 59, at sea, off the coast of Tibble Teer.2
     He was educated in 1811 at Edinburgh University, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.2 He was educated between 1812 and 1813 at Addiscombe Military Academy, Addiscombe, Surrey, England.2 He was commissioned in 1816 with the rank of Ensign, in the service of the Bengal Engineers.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1818.2 He gained the rank of Captain in 1827.2 He gained the rank of Major in 1839.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1841.2 He gained the rank of Colonel in 1852.2 He gained the rank of Major-General in 1854 in the Bengal Engineers.1

     Sarah Greenlaw is the daughter of Charles Bartlett Greenlaw.2 She married Maj.-Gen. William Nairne Forbes, son of John Forbes of Blackford and Anna Margaretta Gregory, in 1836.1

Lt.-Col. Jonathan Leslie of Rothie Norman1

     Lt.-Col. Jonathan Leslie of Rothie Norman was born on 22 February 1798.1,2 He was the son of John Forbes of Blackford and Anna Margaretta Gregory.3 He was baptised on 16 March 1798 at Auchterless, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.2 He married Margaret Urquhart, daughter of John Urquhart of Craigston Castle, on 23 May 1825 at Old Machar, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.1,2 He died in 1877.1
     He was given the name of Jonathan Forbes at birth.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 78th Highlanders.1 Circa 1861 his name was legally changed to Jonathan Leslie on inheriting the Rothie Norman estate from his cousin Robert Leslie of Rothie Norman.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.)1

     Margaret Urquhart was the daughter of John Urquhart of Craigston Castle.2 She married Lt.-Col. Jonathan Leslie of Rothie Norman, son of John Forbes of Blackford and Anna Margaretta Gregory, on 23 May 1825 at Old Machar, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.1,3 She died in 1882.1
     From 23 May 1825, her married name became Forbes. From circa 1861, her married name became Leslie.
