     Anthony William Garthwaite was born on 10 November 1917.1 He was the son of Sir William Garthwaite, 1st Bt. and Janet Rodrigues.2 He married Hon. Waveney Mancroft Samuel, daughter of Sir Arthur Samuel, 1st Baron Mancroft and Phoebe Fletcher, on 1 December 1950.1 He died on 4 October 1972 at age 54.1
     He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow, London, EnglandG.1 He graduated from New College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He gained the rank of officer in the Scots Guards, General List and Leicestershire Regiment.1 He fought in the Second World War between 1939 and 1942, when he was invalided.1 He was Vice-Consul to Kansas City in 1942.1 He was British Naval Liaison Office in 1944 at San Pedro, California, U.S.A.G.1

     Sir Arthur Samuel, 1st Baron Mancroft was born on 6 December 1872.2 He was the son of Benjamin Samuel and Rosetta Haldinstein.2 He married Phoebe Fletcher, daughter of George Alfred Chune Fletcher, on 19 December 1912.2 He died on 17 August 1942 at age 69.2
     He was educated at King Edward VI School, Norwich, Norfolk, EnglandG.2 He held the office of Lord Mayor of Norwich between 1912 and 1913.2 He was Assistant Director, Army Contracts (Munitions), War Office between 1914 and 1915.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for Farnham between 1918 and 1937.2 He held the office of Parliamentary Under-Secretary, Foreign Affairs.2 He held the office of Parliamentary Secretary, Board of Trade.2 He held the office of Minister, Department of Overseas Trade between 1924 and 1927.2 He held the office of Finance Secretary, Treasury between 1927 and 1929.2 He was created 1st Baronet Samuel, of Mancroft, in the City of Norwich [U.K.] on 15 January 1932.2 He wrote the book The Mancroft Essays.2 He wrote the book Life of Giovanni Battista Piranesi.2 He was created 1st Baron Mancroft, of Mancroft, in the City of Norwich [U.K.] on 23 February 1937.2
