     Henry Richard Gethin was born on 24 November 1863.1 He was the son of William St. Lawrence Gethin and Emily Fife.2 He married Clemence Mary Wilmot, daughter of Hon. Alexander Wilmot, in January 1895.1 He died on 25 April 1900 at age 36 at South Africa, killed in action.1
     He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the Marshall's Horse.1 He fought in the Boer War.1
