Dougal Macdougall, 1st of Garochloyne died in 1308 at Kirrouchtrie, Scotland, killed in battle with Edward Bruce.2
In 1295 he had a charter from his kinsman, King John I Balliol, of the lands of Garochloyne ('joyful tufted mount', the ancient designation of the feudal barony of Garthland), Lougan, Elrig, and others on the Rhinns of Galloway.1 He was invested as a Knight in 1307 by King Edward I for the capture at Loch Ryan of Thomas and Alexander.1
