John Matheson of Attadale was the son of Farquhar Matheson and Mary Macrae.2 He married, firstly, unknown daughter Mackenzie, daughter of unknown Mackenzie of Achilty.1 He married, secondly, Margaret Mackenzie, daughter of unknown Mackenzie of Pitlundy and unknown daughter Mackenzie.1 He married Elizabeth Mackenzie, daughter of Simon Mackenzie of Allangrange, in 1745.1 He died in 1760.1
He was tacksman of Fernaig.1 He purchased Attadale in 1730.1 He two sons by his first wife (who died in infancy), another five sons and three daughters by his second wife and a son by his third wife.1
