     John Ruaridh Grant Mackenzie, 5th Earl of Cromartie was born on 12 June 1948.1 He is the son of Roderick Grant Francis Mackenzie, 4th Earl of Cromartie and Olga Laurence.1 He married, firstly, Helen Murray, daughter of John Murray, in 1973.1 He and Helen Murray were divorced in 1983.1 He married, secondly, Janet Clare Harley, daughter of Christopher James Harley and Mary Elizabeth Stuart Weir, in 1985.1
     He was given the name of John Ruaridh Blunt Grant Blunt-Mackenzie at birth.1 He was educated at Rannoch School, Perthshire, ScotlandG.1 In 1962 his name was legally changed to John Ruaridh Grant Mackenzie.1 He was educated at Strathclyde University, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, ScotlandG.1 He was registered as a Member, Institution of Explosives Engineers (M.I.Exp.E.)2 He was an explosives engineer.2 He held the position of Chief of the Clan Mackenzie from in 1980.1 He wrote the book Selected Climbs in Skye, published 1982.2 He succeeded as the 5th Baron Castlehaven, of Castlehaven, co.      Hon. Walter Osra Blunt-Mackenzie was born on 6 December 1906.1 He was the son of Lt.-Col. Edward Walter Blunt-Mackenzie and Sibell Lilian Sutherland-Leveson-Gower, Countess of Cromartie.1 He married, firstly, Pamela Leslie Ursula Oliver on 21 March 1934.1 He and Pamela Leslie Ursula Oliver were divorced in 1940.1 He married, secondly, Mary Hix, daughter of Theophilius D. Hix, on 16 February 1946.1 He died on 8 January 1951 at age 44.1
     He fought in the Second World War between 1941 and 1943, in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserves.1
