Murdoch Gillean Maclaine, 23rd of Lochbuie was born on 1 September 1845.1 He was the son of Donald Maclaine, 22nd of Lochbuie and Emilie Guillaumine Vincent.2 He married Katherine Marian Schwabe, daughter of Salis Schwabe, on 17 June 1869.1 He died on 5 April 1909 at age 63.1
He was Captain 9th Argyll Artillery Vols, formerly Captain 6th Royal Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers), mil correspondent of The Times throughout Franco-Prussian –71 (awarded Iron Cross by Kaiser 1871), founded (with Duke of Argyll) the Argyll Gathering and B War 1870.1 He was Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) Argyll.1 He was educated Edinburgh Acad and The Priory, Croydon.1 OF LOCHBUIE.1 He was Justice of the Peace (J.P.).1
