     William Thomas Lewis, 1st Baron Merthyr was born on 5 August 1837.1 He was the son of Thomas William Lewis and Mary Anne John.2 He married Anne Rees, daughter of William Rees, on 1 March 1864.1 He died on 27 August 1914 at age 77.1
