Ernest Otway Ward La Touche was born on 3 September 1867.1 He was the son of Lt.-Gen. Hon. Bernard Matthew Ward and Emily Maria La Touche.1 He married Feodora Daniel, daughter of Charles Daniel, on 2 April 1909.1 He died on 23 November 1965 at age 98.1
Ernest Otway Ward La Touche was baptised with the name of Ernest Otway Ward.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the service of the 5th Battalion, Royal Irish Rifles.1 He held the office of Inspector of Congested Districts Board [Ireland] between 1893 and 1900.1 He fought in the Boer War between 1900 and 1901, where he won a medal and four clasps.1 He held the office of Inspector of Crown Lands, Transvaal between 1903 and 1921.1 On 8 July 1921 his name was legally changed to Ernest Otway Ward La Touche by Royal Licence.1

Montagu Wilfred Markham was born on 20 November 1884. He was the son of Lt.-Gen. Sir Edwin Markham and Emily Evelyn Lucy Stopford. He married Dorothy Ram, daughter of Reverend George Stopford Ram and Hon. Charlotte Anne O'Brien, on 17 September 1914. He died on 30 August 1917 at age 32, killed in action.
