     He was educated at Charterhouse School, Godalming, Surrey, EnglandG.1 He fought in the Boer War between 1900 and 1902.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.)1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)1 He gained the rank of Major and Brevet Lieutenant-Colonel in the Gordon Highlanders.1 He fought in the First World War between 1914 and 1918.1
