Walter Norris Nicholson1

     Walter Norris Nicholson was born on 10 June 1877.1 He was the son of William Norris Nicholson and Charlotte Alice Clode.2 He married Una Phyllis Higgs, daughter of Philip Higgs, on 12 March 1924.1 He died on 5 April 1964 at age 86.1
     He graduated in 1899 with a Charterhouse and Trin College Cambridge Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 ) He fought in the Boer War between 1899 and 1902.1 He gained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in 1900 in the Suffolk Regiment.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1901.1 He was Adjutant between 1904 and 1907.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1910.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He gained the rank of Major in 1915.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1916.1 He gained the rank of Brigade Lieutenant-Colonel in 1917.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1918.1 He was AQMG, Northern Command India between 1929 and 1933.1 He gained the rank of Colonel between 1939 and 1947 in the Suffolk regiment.1
