     Sir Charles Petrie, 1st Bt. was born on 23 February 1853.1 He was the son of Alexander Petrie and Margaret Lyell.2 He married Hannah Lindsay Hamilton, daughter of William Hamilton, on 30 September 1880.1 He died on 8 July 1920 at age 67.1
     He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Liverpool.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Lancashire.1 He held the office of Alderman of Liverpool.1 He held the office of Lord Mayor of Liverpool between 1901 and 1902.1 He was appointed Knight Bachelor in 1903.1 He was a member of the West Lancashire Territorial Forces Association.1 He was president of the Liverpool Constitutional Association.1 He was created 1st Baronet Petrie, of Carrowcarden, Castleconnor, Tieragh, co. Sligo [U.K.] on 20 June 1918.1
