     Arthur Balfour, 1st Baron Riverdale was born on 9 January 1873.1 He was the son of Herbert Balfour.2 He married Frances Josephine Keighley Bingham, daughter of Charles Henry Bingham and Josephine Keighley, on 19 October 1899.1 He died on 7 July 1957 at age 84.1
     He was educated at Ashville College, Harrogate, Yorkshire, North Riding, England.1 He was Vice-Consul for Denmark between 1899 and 1947.1 He was Consul for Belgium between 1915 and 1947.1 He was chairman of C Meadows and Company and High Speed Steel Alloys.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the British Empire (K.B.E.) in 1923.1 He was chairman of the Committee on Industry and Trade in 1924.1 He was created 1st Baronet Balfour [U.K.] on 26 June 1929.1 He was chairman of UK Trade Mission to Egypt in 1931.1 He was created 1st Baron Riverdale, of Sheffield, co. York [U.K.] on 27 June 1935.2 He was chairman of Fire Brigades Committee in 1936.1 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of the British Empire (G.B.E.) in 1942.1 He was chairman and managing director of Arthur Balfour, steel manufacturers.1

     Hon. Evelyn Hope Balfour was born on 6 April 1909.2 She was the daughter of Arthur Balfour, 1st Baron Riverdale and Frances Josephine Keighley Bingham.2 She married, firstly, G/Capt. Eustace Jack Linton Hope, son of Major Linton Hope, on 12 April 1930.2 She married, secondly, Lt.-Col. John Claude Thurlow Rivett-Carnac, son of John Thurlow Rivett-Carnac and Edith Emily Brownlow, on 6 June 1953.1 She died on 26 April 1967 at age 58.1
     From 12 April 1930, her married name became Hope.2 From 6 June 1953, her married name became Rivett-Carnac.
