     Ernest Hayford Thorold was born on 17 February 1870.1 He was the son of Algernon Charles Edward Thorold and Edith Mary Clay.2 He married Dorothy Frances Herbert, daughter of Edward Herbert, on 23 August 1913.1 He died on 6 February 1940 at age 69.1
     Rev.1 He graduated with a Highgate Sch and Queen's College Oxford Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He was DD, CF BEF (despatches twice) and Staff Officer to Chaplain-Gen 1916–21, Chaplain Royal Mil Chapel Brigade Guards 1921–23, with Army of the Rhine 1923–24, Assist Chaplain-Gen Western Cmd 1924–26 and Southern Cmd 1926–30, Honour Chaplain to HM GEOR in 1914.1 He was Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1919.1 He was Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) ( in 1929.1 He was Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1934.1
