     Samuel Haughton was born on 21 December 1821.1 He was the son of Samuel Haughton and Sarah Hancock.2 He married Louisa Haughton, daughter of John Haughton and Louisa Courtauld Osbourne, on 3 July 1848.1 He died on 31 October 1897 at age 75.1
     He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland, with a College Dublin (BD).1 He graduated with a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.)1 He was Professor of Geology and Senior Fellow at Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland.1 He was a theologian, mathematician and zoologist.1 He was President of the Royal Zoological Society of Ireland.1 He was President of the Royal Irish Academy.1 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.)1 He was Governor of Sir Patrick Dunn's Hospital.1 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Civil Law (D.C.L.) by Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.1 He was a vigorous opponent of Darwin's theory of evolution.1 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Law (LL.D.) by Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.1
