     Willem Graaf van Hogendorp was born on 15 December 1841 at The Hague, The Netherlands.1 He was the son of Frederik Baron van Hogendorp and Leopoldine Marie Gravin van Limburg Stirum.1 He married Maria Arnoudina Gravin van Hogendorp, daughter of Jacob Cornelis Paulus Graaf van Hogendorp and Jacoba Cornelia Arnoudina Barones van Zuylen van Nijevelt, on 11 May 1876 at Dordrecht, The Netherlands.1 He died on 23 December 1925 at age 84 at Huis Oudeweg, Doorn, The Netherlands.1
     He was Commander-in-Chief of the Dutch Navy between 1874 and 1879.1 He gained the rank of Schout-bij-Nacht in 1895.1
