     John Singleton Copley was born on 3 July 1737 at Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.A.1 He was the son of Richard Copley and Mary Singleton.1 He married Susannah Farnum Clarke, daughter of Richard Clarke, on 16 November 1769.1 He died on 9 September 1815 at age 78.1
     He was a portrait painter.1 He was registered as a member of the Royal Academy in 1779.1

     Sarah Garay Brunsden was the daughter of Charles Brunsden.1 She married, firstly, Lt.-Col. Charles Thomas before 1819.1 She married, secondly, John Singleton Copley, 1st Baron Lyndhurst, son of John Singleton Copley and Susannah Farnum Clarke, in March 1819.1 She died in January 1834.1
     From before 1819, her married name became Thomas.1 From March 1819, her married name became Copley.1
