     He was educated at Sedbergh School, Sedbergh, Cumberland, England.1 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel between 1916 and 1919 in the 4th Battalion, British West Indies Regiment.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of County Donegal.1
