     He was educated at English School, Cairo, Egypt.1 He was educated at King Edward VII School, King's Lynn, Norfolk, England.1 He gained the rank of officer in 1960 in the Royal Air Force.1 He was Aide-de-Camp to HM Queen Elizabeth II between 1979 and 1981.1 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1982.1 He was Commandant General of the Royal Air Force Regiment between 1987 and 1989.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1991.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) in 1992.1
