     He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Liverpool, Everton Division between 1929 and 1931.1 He was appointed Knight Bachelor on 23 February 1933.1 He was chairman of the News Letter Ltd.1 He was founder and managing director of The Readers' Library Publishing COmpany Ltd.1 He was created 1st Baronet Caine, of Greeba Castle in the Isle of Man [U.K.] on 1 June 1937.1 On his death, his baronetcy became extinct.1
