     He was commissioned in March 1793, in the service of the Royal Army.¹ He fought in the Peninuslar Wars in 1809.¹ He was Secretary of Legation to Colombia in 1823.¹ He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in July 1825.¹ He was Consul-General and Diplomatic Agent to Egypt in 1833.¹ He retired from the military on 11 November 1836.¹
