Mervyn Lyde Chute was born on 11 February 1881.1 He was the son of Reverend Edward Russell Chute and Mary Nina Firth.1 He married, firstly, Frances Josephine Armour, daughter of Reverend Samuel Crawford Armour, on 28 January 1909.1 He married, secondly, Emerin Semple Keene, daughter of Francis Bowler Keene, on 1 December 1927.1
     He was educated at St. Paul's School, London, England.1 He was educated at Brighton College, Brighton, Sussex, EnglandG.1 He fought in the First World War between 1914 and 1919.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Royal Engineer.1 He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1918.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Bedfordshire in 1929.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of Bedfordshire between 1946 and 1947.1
