Lt.-Col. Charles Edwin Frederick Rich was born on 5 July 1871. He was the son of Reverend John Rich and Clara Sophia Bosworth. He married Violet Cecile Annie St. John, daughter of Admiral Henry Craven St. John and Catherine Dora Rodney, on 31 August 1899.1 He died on 23 February 1944 at age 72.
