He was the son of Franz III Fürst von Waldburg zu Wolfegg und Waldsee and Sophie Leopoldine Gräfin von Arco. He married Sidonie Prinzessin von Lobkowicz on 26 July 1890. He died on 27 September 1950 at age 87.
     Maximilian IV Fürst von Waldburg zu Wolfegg und Waldsee succeeded to the title of 4th Fürst von Waldburg zu Wolfegg und Waldsee in 1906.
