     Sir Godfrey Baring, 1st Bt. was born on 18 April 1871.1 He was the son of Lt.-Gen. Charles Baring and Helen Graham.1 He married, firstly, Eva Hermione Mackintosh, daughter of Alexander Aeneas Mackintosh, 27th of Mackintosh and Margaret Frances Graham, on 26 January 1898.1 He married, secondly, Brenda Margery Blake, daughter of Canon Joseph Sewell Blake, on 22 January 1937.1 He died on 24 November 1957 at age 86.2
     He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the 3rd Battalion, Hampshire Regiment.1 He held the office of High Sheriff in 1897.1 He held the office of Chairman of the Isle of Wight County Council between 1898 and 1957.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.)
