     Sir John Bamfylde, 1st Bt. was born circa 1610.1 He was the son of John Bamfield and Elizabeth Drake.1 He married Gertrude Coplestone, daughter of Amyan Coplestone and Gertrude Chichester, on 3 May 1637.1 He died in April 1650.1 He was buried at Poltimore, Devon, EnglandG.1
     He matriculated at Wadham College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, on 30 October 1629.1 He was admitted to Middle Temple in 1630.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Penrhyn between 1640 and 1650.1 He was created 1st Baronet Bamfylde, of Poltimore, co. Devon [England] on 14 July 1641.1

     Gertrude Coplestone was the daughter of Amyan Coplestone and Gertrude Chichester.1 She married Sir John Bamfylde, 1st Bt., son of John Bamfield and Elizabeth Drake, on 3 May 1637.1 She died in 1658.1 Her will was proven (by probate) on 29 November 1658.1
     From 3 May 1637, her married name became Bamfylde.1 Her last will was dated 8 November 1657.

     Sir Coplestone Bamfylde, 2nd Bt. was born in 1638.1 He was the son of Sir John Bamfylde, 1st Bt. and Gertrude Coplestone.1 He married, firstly, Margaret Bulkeley, daughter of Francis Bulkeley.2 He married, secondly, Jane Pole, daughter of Sir Courtenay Pole, 2nd Bt. and Ureth Shapcote, circa 21 October 1674 at Houghton, Devon, EnglandG.1,3 He died on 9 February 1691/92 at Warleigh, Devon, EnglandG.1 He was buried at Poltimore, Devon, EnglandG.1 His will was proven (by probate) on 2 May 1692.1
     He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Bamfylde, of Poltimore, co. Devon [E., 1641] in April 1650.1 He matriculated at Corpus Christi College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, on 20 March 1650/51.1
     He was an active Royalist, and presented to General Monk a 'petition of right' from Devon, for which he was imprisoned.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Tiverton in 1659.1 He held the office of Sheriff of Devon from 1660 to 1661.1 He gained the rank of Colonel in the Devon Militia.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Devon between 1671 and 1679.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Devon between 1685 and 1687.1 His last will was dated 24 August 1691.
