     Claude Roulston Barran was born on 1 May 1885.1 He was the son of Alfred Barran and Lily Maria Scattergood.1 He married Edith Gaunt, daughter of Arthur Gaunt, on 10 October 1911.1 He died on 17 January 1942 at age 56.1
     He was educated at Marlborough College, Marlborough, Wiltshire, EnglandG.1 He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the Royal Garrison Artillery (Special Reserve.)1
