     Mary Dill was born on 17 March 1845.1 She was the daughter of Robert Foster Dill and Catherine Haughton Rentoul.1,2 She married Richard Dawson Bates on 11 April 1872.1 She died on 1 May 1931 at age 86.1
     From 11 April 1872, her married name became Bates.1

Robert Foster Dill1

     Robert Foster Dill was born on 17 April 1811.1 He was the son of Reverend Samuel Dill and Hester Foster.2 He married Catherine Haughton Rentoul, daughter of James Rentoul, on 5 February 1841.1 He died on 20 July 1893 at age 82.1
     He graduated from Glasgow University, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, ScotlandG, in 1834 with a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.)1 He was Coroner of the City of Belfast in 1865.1 He was registered as a Member, Royal College of Surgeons (M.R.C.S.)3 He was Professor of Midwifery in 1868 at Queen's College, Belfast, County Antrim, IrelandG.1

     Jessie Muriel Cleland was the daughter of Sir Charles John Cleland.1 She married Sir Richard Dawson Bates, 1st Bt., son of Richard Dawson Bates and Mary Dill, on 8 April 1920.1 She died on 31 October 1972.1
     From 8 April 1920, her married name became Bates.1

     From 30 April 1953, her married name became Bates.1 She lived in 2003 at 18 Peninsular Square, Winchester, Hampshire, EnglandG.1
