     He held the office of County Court Judge.2 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.)1 He was appointed Queen's Counsel (Q.C.)1

     Walter Russell Rea, 1st Baron Rea was born on 18 May 1873.2 He was the son of Rt. Hon. Russell Rea and Jane Philip Mactaggart.2 He married, firstly, Evelyn Muirhead, daughter of John James Muirhead, on 25 January 1896.2 He married, secondly, Jemima Ewing, daughter of Reverend Alexander Ewing, on 28 April 1931.2 He died in May 1948.2
     He was educated at University College School, Hampstead, London, England.2 He was chairman of Rea, Warren and McLennan, merchant bankers.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Liberal) for Scarborough between 1906 and 1918.2 He was president of the Free Trade Union.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Liberal) for Bradford North between 1923 and 1924.2 He held the office of Comptroller of the Hosuehold between 1931 and 1932.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Liberal) for Dewsbury between 1931 and 1935.2 He was created 1st Baronet Rea [U.K.] on 8 July 1935.2 He was created 1st Baron Rea, of Eskdale, co. Cumberland [U.K.] on 3 June 1937.2
