     Emily May Triggs, Baroness Blatch was born on 24 July 1937.1 She was the daughter of Stephen Joseph Triggs and Sarah Ann Carpenter.1 She married John Richard Blatch, son of George Henry Blatch, on 7 September 1963.1 She died on 31 May 2005 at age 67, from pancreatic cancer.2
     She was educated at Prenton Secondary School for Girls, Birkenhead, Cheshire, EnglandG.1 She was educated at Huntingdonshire College, Huntingdonshire, EnglandG.1 She was an air traffic control assistant, Women's Royal Auxiliary Air Force between 1955 and 1959.1 She was a member of the Cambridgeshire County Council between 1977 and 1989.1 She was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1983.1 She was appointed Fellow, Royal Society of Arts (F.R.S.A.) in 1985.1 She was created Baroness Blatch, of Hinchingbrooke in the County of Cambridge [U.K. Life Peer] on 4 July 1987.1,3 She held the office of Minister of State, Department of Education between 1991 and 1992.1 She held the office of Minister of State, Education between 1992 and 1994.1 She was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1994.1 She held the office of Minister of State, Home Office between 1994 and 1997.1 She graduated from University of Teeside, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, EnglandG, in 1997 with a Honorary Doctor of Law (LL.D.)1 She held the office of Deputy Opposition Leader in 2001.1
