     John Alfred Brain was born on 8 December 1827.1 He was the son of John Brain and Ann Badcock.1 He married Ann Catherine Cottrell, daughter of Thomas Cottrell, on 26 May 1853.1 He died on 12 April 1901 at age 73.1
     He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Berkshire in 1864.1 He lived at Reading, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He had two younger sons and three daughters.1

     Ann Catherine Cottrell was the daughter of Thomas Cottrell.1 She married John Alfred Brain, son of John Brain and Ann Badcock, on 26 May 1853.1 She died on 13 September 1892.1
     From 26 May 1853, her married name became Brain.1

     Sydney Brain was born on 15 November 1860.1 He was the son of John Alfred Brain and Ann Catherine Cottrell.1 He married Gertrude Mary Atkins, daughter of John Atkins, on 9 April 1891.1 He died on 21 October 1939 at age 78.1
     He was educated at Christ's Hospital, Reading, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He was a practising solicitor at Reading, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He was Clerk to Reading Justices between 1918 and 1938.1

     John Atkins Brain was born on 22 January 1892.1 He was the son of Sydney Brain and Gertrude Mary Atkins.1 He married Doris May Farrer, daughter of Edward Oliver Farrer, on 3 September 1919.1 He died on 11 March 1954 at age 62.1
     He was educated at Leighton Park School, Reading, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was wounded in 1918.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the Royal Berkshire Regiment.1 He was Clerk to the Berkshire Magistrates between 1934 and 1942.1

     He was educated at Leighton Park School, Reading, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Artillery.1 He fought in the Second World War between 1942 and 1945.1 He graduated from St. Edmund Hall, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, in 1947 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He was a practising solicitor and notary public.1
