     Janet Sinclair is the daughter of Patrick Sinclair of Southdun.² She married John Sinclair, son of John Sinclair of Rattar and Elizabeth Sinclair.¹
     Her married name became Sinclair.

     John Sinclair was the son of John Sinclair and Janet Sinclair.² He died in 1734, unmarried.¹
     He lived at Rattar, Scotland^G.¹

     William Sinclair of Rattar, 10th Earl of Caithness was born on 2 April 1727.¹ He was the son of John Sinclair and Janet Sinclair.² He married Barbara Sinclair, daughter of John Sinclair of Scotscalder.¹ He died on 29 November 1779 at age 52.¹
     He succeeded as the 10th Earl of Caithness [S., 1455] on 9 December 1765.² On 28 November 1768 he was served heir, although an unsuccessful counterclaim was advanced by a great-grandson of David Sinclair of Broinach, brother of the 8th Earl (it appeared that the latter’s line was illegitimate, however) and his claim to the Earldom was allowed 2 May 1772.¹

     Barbara Sinclair was the daughter of John Sinclair of Scotscalder.² She married William Sinclair of Rattar, 10th Earl of Caithness, son of John Sinclair and Janet Sinclair.¹ She died on 20 February 1793.¹
     After her marriage, Barbara Sinclair was styled as Countess of Caithness. Her married name became Sinclair.

     Lt.-Col. John Sinclair, 11th Earl of Caithness was the son of William Sinclair of Rattar, 10th Earl of Caithness and Barbara Sinclair.² He died on 8 April 1789 at London, England^G, by shooting himself, unmarried.³ He was buried on 13 April 1789 at St. Marylebone Church, Marylebone Road, Marylebone, London, England^G.³ He died intestate and his estate was administered in October 1789.³
     He was commissioned in 1772.³ He fought in the American War of Independence, and was wounded at the siege of Charlestown.¹ He gained the rank of Major in 1777 in the 76th Foot.³ He succeeded as the 11th Earl of Caithness [S., 1455] on 29 November 1779.¹ He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1783 in the 76th Foot.³

     Isabella Sinclair was the daughter of William Sinclair of Rattar, 10th Earl of Caithness and Barbara Sinclair.² She died, unmarried.¹

     Janet Sinclair was the daughter of William Sinclair of Rattar, 10th Earl of Caithness and Barbara Sinclair.² She married James Trail of Hobbister on 31 July 1784.¹ She died on 29 March 1806.¹
     From 31 July 1784, her married name became Trail.¹

     James Trail of Hobbister married Janet Sinclair, daughter of William Sinclair of Rattar, 10th Earl of Caithness and Barbara Sinclair, on 31 July 1784.¹

     Jacobina Sinclair was baptised on 9 April 1717.¹ She was the daughter of John Sinclair and Janet Sinclair.²
