     He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.)1 He held the office of Minister for War in 1963, resigned after the exposure of his affair with Christine Keeler.

     John Sackville Richard Tufton, 2nd Baron Hothfield of Hothfield was born on 8 November 1873.1 He was the son of Henry James Tufton, 1st Baron Hothfield of Hothfield and Alice Harriot Argyll Stracey.2,1 He married, firstly, Lady Ierne Louisa Arundel Hastings, daughter of Francis Power Plantagenet Hastings, 14th Earl of Huntingdon and Mary Anne Wilmot Westenra, on 10 June 1896.1 He married, secondly, Sybil Augusta Sant, daughter of John Sant, on 31 December 1935.1 He died on 21 December 1952 at age 79.1
     He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the 1st Life Guards.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.)1 He fought in the Boer War between 1901 and 1902.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Westmorland and Kent.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Westmorland and Kent.1 He fought in the First World War, and was mentioned in despatches.1 He was awarded the APM in 1915.1 He was awarded the Order of Leopold of Belgium.1 He was awarded the Mérite Agricole.1 He gained the rank of Croix de Guerre.1 He gained the rank of Major in the 3rd Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Hothfield of Hothfield, co.
