Major Sir Robert Clayton, 2nd Bt.1

     Major Sir Robert Clayton, 2nd Bt. was born in 1746.1 He was the son of John Clayton and Elizabeth Goodwin.1 He married Christophera Baldwin, daughter of Reverend Roger Baldwin, in 1780.1 He died on 10 August 1839 at Adlington Hall, Adlington, Lancashire, EnglandG, without issue.1 His will was proven (by probate) in November 1839.1
     He gained the rank of Major in the 17th Regiment of Infantry.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Clayton, of Adlington, co. Lancaster [G.B., 1774] on 29 April 1828.1
     On his death, his baronetcy became extinct.1

     Christophera Baldwin was the daughter of Reverend Roger Baldwin.1 She married Major Sir Robert Clayton, 2nd Bt., son of John Clayton and Elizabeth Goodwin, in 1780.1 She died before July 1848.1 Her will was proven (by probate) in July 1848.1
     From 1780, her married name became Clayton.1

     Sir James Clavering, 1st Bt. was baptised on 3 February 1619/20 at St. Nicholas Church, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Northumberland, EnglandG.1 He was the son of John Clavering and Anne Shafto.1 He married Jane Madison, daughter of Henry Madison, on 23 April 1640 at Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Northumberland, EnglandG.1 He died circa March 1701/2.1 He was buried on 24 March 1701/2 at Whickham, County Durham, EnglandG.1
     He was admitted to Gray's Inn on 30 April 1638.1 He held the office of Sheriff of County Durham from 1649 to 1650.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for County Durham between 1656 and 1658.1 He was created 1st Baronet Clavering, of Axwell, co. Durham [England] on 5 June 1661.1 He held the office of Sheriff of County Durham from 1673 to 1674.1
