     James Coverley Stopford was born on 27 September 1909.1 He was the son of Major Heneage Frank Stopford and Margaret Amelia Kennedy.1 He married Katherine Sheila MacLeod, daughter of Captain G. Charles Sholto MacLeod, on 24 July 1936.1 He died on 29 September 1985 at age 76 at Deben, Suffolk, England.1,2
     He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Navy.1 He fought in the Second World War.1 He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1940.1
