     Vernon William Coats was born on 20 July 1919.1 He was the son of John Alexander Coats and Audrey Gretchen Wilmot.1 He married, firstly, Catherine Roseline Ratcliffe Hinton, daughter of Captain Harold Virgo Hinton, before 1948.1 He and Catherine Roseline Ratcliffe Hinton were divorced in 1954.1 He married, secondly, Ethel Maud Stephens, daughter of Captain F. R. Stephens, on 2 October 1954.1 He died on 17 August 1960 at age 41.1
     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG.1 He gained the rank of officer in the Buckinghamshire Light Infantry and Scots Guards.1 He fought in the Second World War between 1939 and 1945.1 He was a Member of the London Stock Exchange.1
