     Rear-Admiral Samuel Long was born on 5 January 1840 at Whitchurch, Shropshire, EnglandG.2 He was the son of Venerable Charles Maitland Long and Anna Maria Wigram.2 He married Alice Jane Wigram, daughter of Rt. Hon. Sir James Wigram and Anne Arkwright, on 15 October 1868 at St. George Hanover Square, London, EnglandG.2 He died on 25 April 1893 at age 53 at Blendworth, Hampshire, EnglandG.2
     He gained the rank of Rear-Admiral in the Royal Navy.2

     Mary Katharine Long was baptised on 6 June 1878 at Hertford, Hertfordshire, EnglandG.2,3 She was the daughter of Rear-Admiral Samuel Long and Alice Jane Wigram.4,2 She married Hugh Jeffery Middleton, son of Sir Arthur Edward Middleton, 7th Bt. and Lady Constance Harriet Amherst, on 22 July 1905 at Catherington, Hampshire, EnglandG.1,2 She died on 23 August 1949 at age 71.1
     From 22 July 1905, her married name became Middleton. She was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1920.1 She held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Northumberland.1
