     He held the office of Member of the Provincial Council [Canterbury].1 He was Deputy Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) [New Zealand]1 He lived at Purran, Rhodes Bay, Canterbury, New ZealandG.1 He lived at Elmwood, Christchurch, New ZealandG.1 He was founder of the New Zealand Shipping Company and the Kaiapoi Woollen Manufacturing Company.2

     Sir Robert Heaton Rhodes was born on 27 February 1861 at Purau, Banks Peninsula, New ZealandG.1 He was the son of Robert Heaton Rhodes and Sophia Annet Latter.1 He was baptised at Trinity Church, Lyttelton, Christchurch, New ZealandG.1 He died on 30 July 1956 at age 95 at Tai Tapu, Banks Peninsula, New Zealand.2
     Sir Robert Heaton Rhodes usually went by his middle name of Heaton.2 He graduated from Brasenose College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1884.2 He held the office of Member of the House of Representatives (M.H.R.)
