     She was educated at Casterton School, Kirkby Lonsdale, Westmorland, England.² From 1970, her married name became Abel Smith.¹ She was member of the Conservative Women's National Committee between 1988 and 1999.² She was member of the Conservative Party National Union Executive Committee between 1991 and 1998.² She was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1994.² She was elected member of the Conservative Party Board of Management between 1999 and 2003.² She was chairman of the Conservative Party Conference in 2002.²

     Lieutenant Thomas Samuel Vesey Stoney was born on 23 August 1898.¹ He was the son of Robert Vesey Stoney and Phoebe Editha Truell.¹ He died on 9 October 1917 at age 19, killed in action.¹
