Robert Shirley was born on 4 September 1673.¹ He was the son of Robert Shirley, 1st Earl Ferrers and Elizabeth Washington.² He and Catherine Venables were engaged.¹ He married Anne Ferrers, daughter of Sir Humphrey Ferrers, on 27 September 1688.² He died on 25 February 1698/99 at age 25, from smallpox.¹ He was buried at Staunton Harold, Leicestershire, England, from small pox.³
     He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.) on 11 January 1699.⁴

     Catherine Venables was the daughter of Peter Venables.² She and Hon. Robert Shirley were engaged.¹ She died in 1680.^1,3
