     Admiral Francis Holburne was born in 1704.2 He was the son of Sir James Holburne, 1st Bt. and Jean Spittal.3 He married Frances Ball, daughter of Guy Ball and Katherine Hole.1 He died on 15 July 1771.2
     He gained the rank of Admiral of the White.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Stirling Burghs between 1761 and 1768.3 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Plymouth between 1768 and 1771.3 He held the office of Lord of the Admiralty from 1770 to 1771.3
