     William Houstoun was born on 23 February 1811.¹ He was the son of General Sir William Houstoun of Calderhall, 1st Bt. and Lady Jane Maitland.¹ He married Matilda Jesse, daughter of E. Jesse, in 1837.¹ He died on 23 October 1872 at age 61.¹

     Colonel John Paton was Commissary-General of the Bengal Army.¹

     Susan Emily Paton was the daughter of Colonel John Paton.² She married General Sir Robert Henry Cunliffe, 4th Bt., son of Sir Foster Cunliffe, 3rd Bt. and Harriet Kinloch, on 2 April 1825.¹ She died on 11 November 1856.¹
     From 2 April 1825, her married name became Cunliffe.¹

     Matilda Jesse was the daughter of E. Jesse.¹ She married Reverend L. Fraser before 1837.¹ She married, secondly, William Houstoun, son of General Sir William Houstoun of Calderhall, 1st Bt. and Lady Jane Maitland, in 1837.¹ She died in 1892.¹
     From before 1837, her married name became Fraser.¹ From 1837, her married name became Houstoun.¹

     George Houstoun was born in 1841.¹ He was the son of William Houstoun and Matilda Jesse.¹

     Mary Augusta Riddell was the daughter of Sir James Miles Riddell, 2nd Bt.² She married Reverend Henry Cunliffe, son of General Sir Robert Henry Cunliffe, 4th Bt. and Susan Emily Paton, on 16 November 1853.¹ She died on 2 December 1879.¹
     From 16 November 1853, her married name became Cunliffe.¹

     Charles Watkin Cunliffe was born on 6 April 1833.¹ He was the son of General Sir Robert Henry Cunliffe, 4th Bt. and Susan Emily Paton.² He died in June 1857 at age 24 at Byram Ghat, India, killed during the Indian Mutiny.¹
     He was with the Bengal Civil Service.¹

     Foster John Cunliffe was born on 14 October 1834.¹ He was the son of General Sir Robert Henry Cunliffe, 4th Bt. and Susan Emily Paton.² He died on 22 September 1857 at age 22 at Lucknow, India^G.¹
     He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the Bengal Artillery.¹ He fought in the Indian Mutiny.
