     James Oswald Haldane was born on 27 May 1879.1 He was the son of Robert Camperdown Haldane and Emily Anderson.2 He died on 8 August 1916 at age 37, killed in action.1
     He gained the rank of officer in the Suffolk Regiment (Cambridge University Rifles Volunteers.)1 He fought in the Boer War.1 He was with the Uganda Civil Service.1 He gained the rank of offcier in the Rifle Brigade.1 He fought in the First World War.1

     Margaret Isabella Haldane was born on 5 January 1847.2 She was the daughter of Robert Haldane and Jane Makgill.3 She married Sir John Makgill, 10th Bt., son of George Makgill and Harriet Strettell, on 18 April 1866.1 She died on 18 March 1920 at age 73.1 She was buried at Waikaraka Cemetery, Onehunga, Auckland, New Zealand.2
     From 18 April 1866, her married name became Makgill.
