     Dr. Marie Carmichael Stopes was born on 15 October 1880.1 She was the daughter of Henry Stopes and Charlotte Carmichael.1 She married, firstly, Reginald Ruggles Gates in 1911.1 She married, secondly, Humphrey Verdon-Roe, son of Edwin Hodgson Roe, in 1918.2 She died on 2 October 1958 at age 77 at Dorking, Surrey, EnglandG, from cancer.1
     She graduated from University College London, London, EnglandG, in 1902 with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.)1 She graduated from University of Munich, Munich, Bavaria, GermanyG, in 1904 with a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in paleobotany.1 Her marriage to Reginald Ruggles Gates was annulled in 1914.1 She wrote the book Married Love, published 1918.1 She wrote the book Wise Motherhood, published 1918.1 She graduated from University College London, London, EnglandG, with a Doctor of Science (Sc.D.)1 She wrote the book Radiant Motherhood, published 1920.1 In 1921 she founded The Mother's clinic, the U.K.'s first family planning clinic.1 She was editor of Birth Control News.1

     Gertrude Henrietta Kimpton was the daughter of William Kimpton.2 She married Colonel Sir David Cunynghame of Milncraig, 5th Bt., son of Sir William Augustus Cunynghame of Milncraig, 4th Bt. and Frances Myrton, on 31 March 1817 at St. Anne, Soho, London, England.1,3 She died in 1842.1
     From 31 March 1817, her married name became Cunynghame.1
