     Thomas Hog of Newliston was born on 4 September 1742 at Newliston, West Lothian, Scotland.^2,3 He married, firstly, Lady Mary Julian Maitland, daughter of James Maitland, 7th Earl of Lauderdale and Mary Turner Lombe, on 9 March 1770.¹ He married, secondly, Mary Stuart, daughter of James Stewart, on 7 March 1798 at Kirkliston, West Lothian, Scotland.^2,3 He died in March 1827 at age 84.²
     He lived at Newliston, Linlithgow, Scotland^G.⁴

     Mary Stuart Maitland Makgill Crichton was born on 17 May 1829 at Collessie, Fife, Scotland^G.² She was the daughter of David Maitland Makgill Crichton of Rankeillour and Eleanor Julian Hog.¹ She was baptised on 13 June 1829 at Collessie, Fife, Scotland^G.² She married Vice-Admiral Philip Horatio Townsend Somerville, son of Thomas Townsend Somerville and Elizabeth Becher Townsend, on 1 May 1849.¹ She died on 1 June 1895 at age 66.¹
     Her married name became Somerville.

     Vice-Admiral Philip Horatio Townsend Somerville was born on 12 January 1808 at Castle Townsend, County Cork, Ireland^G.² He was the son of Thomas Townsend Somerville and Elizabeth Becher Townsend.² He married Mary Stuart Maitland Makgill Crichton, daughter of David Maitland Makgill Crichton of Rankeillour and Eleanor Julian Hog, on 1 May 1849.¹ He died on 12 May 1881 at age 73.¹

     Esther Coventry was born circa 1800. She was the daughter of Andrew Coventry.¹ She married David Maitland Makgill Crichton of Rankeillour, son of Charles Maitland and Mary Johnston, on 2 December 1834.¹ She died on 19 October 1892.¹
     From 2 December 1834, her married name became Maitland Makgill Crichton.

     Andrew Coventry graduated with a Doctor of Law (LL.D.)¹ He lived at Shanwell^G.¹

     Maj.-Gen. David Makgill Crichton Maitland was born on 20 August 1841 at Collessie, Fife, Scotland^G.² He was the son of David Maitland Makgill Crichton of Rankeillour and Esther Coventry. He married Lady Margaret Pleydell-Bouverie, daughter of Jacob Pleydell-Bouverie, 4th Earl of Radnor and Lady Mary Augusta Frederica Grimston, on 29 October 1873.¹ He died on 2 January 1907 at age 65.¹
     He was given the name of David Maitland Makgill Crichton at birth.¹ In 1884 his name was legally changed to David Makgill Crichton Maitland.¹ He gained the rank of Major-General in the Grenadier Guards.¹

     Lady Margaret Pleydell-Bouverie was born circa 1853. She was the daughter of Jacob Pleydell-Bouverie, 4th Earl of Radnor and Lady Mary Augusta Frederica Grimston.^1,2 She married Maj.-Gen. David Makgill Crichton Maitland, son of David Maitland Makgill Crichton of Rankeillour and Esther Coventry, on 29 October 1873.¹ She died on 5 January 1924.¹
     Her married name became Makgill Crichton Maitland.

     Esther Frederica Maitland Makgill Crichton was born on 28 May 1839 at Collessie, Fife, Scotland^G.² She was the daughter of David Maitland Makgill Crichton of Rankeillour and Esther Coventry.¹ She married Captain Augustus Chetham Strode on 25 March 1865.¹
     Her married name became Strode.

     Captain Augustus Chetham Strode married Esther Frederica Maitland Makgill Crichton, daughter of David Maitland Makgill Crichton of Rankeillour and Esther Coventry, on 25 March 1865.¹ He died on 10 March 1874.¹
     He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.)¹ He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Navy.¹

     Charles Maitland was born on 26 December 1769.¹ He was the son of Captain Hon. Frederick Lewis Maitland of Rankeillour and Margaret Dick.² He married Mary Johnston, daughter of David Johnston, on 26 August 1794.¹ He died in 1820.¹
     He gained the rank of officer in the 17th Light Dragoons.¹
