     Thomas Hog of Newliston was born on 4 September 1742 at Newliston, West Lothian, Scotland.2,3 He married, firstly, Lady Mary Julian Maitland, daughter of James Maitland, 7th Earl of Lauderdale and Mary Turner Lombe, on 9 March 1770.1 He married, secondly, Mary Stuart, daughter of James Stewart, on 7 March 1798 at Kirkliston, West Lothian, Scotland.2,3 He died in March 1827 at age 84.2
     He lived at Newliston, Linlithgow, ScotlandG.4

     Mary Stuart Maitland Makgill Crichton was born on 17 May 1829 at Collessie, Fife, ScotlandG.2 She was the daughter of David Maitland Makgill Crichton of Rankeillour and Eleanor Julian Hog.1 She was baptised on 13 June 1829 at Collessie, Fife, ScotlandG.2 She married Vice-Admiral Philip Horatio Townsend Somerville, son of Thomas Townsend Somerville and Elizabeth Becher Townsend, on 1 May 1849.1 She died on 1 June 1895 at age 66.1
     Her married name became Somerville.

     Esther Coventry was born circa 1800. She was the daughter of Andrew Coventry.1 She married David Maitland Makgill Crichton of Rankeillour, son of Charles Maitland and Mary Johnston, on 2 December 1834.1 She died on 19 October 1892.1
     From 2 December 1834, her married name became Maitland Makgill Crichton.

     Maj.-Gen. David Makgill Crichton Maitland was born on 20 August 1841 at Collessie, Fife, ScotlandG.2 He was the son of David Maitland Makgill Crichton of Rankeillour and Esther Coventry. He married Lady Margaret Pleydell-Bouverie, daughter of Jacob Pleydell-Bouverie, 4th Earl of Radnor and Lady Mary Augusta Frederica Grimston, on 29 October 1873.1 He died on 2 January 1907 at age 65.1
     He was given the name of David Maitland Makgill Crichton at birth.1 In 1884 his name was legally changed to David Makgill Crichton Maitland.1 He gained the rank of Major-General in the Grenadier Guards.1

     He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.)1 He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Navy.1

     He gained the rank of officer in the 17th Light Dragoons.1
