     He held the office of Governor of Ceylon from 7 February 1785 to 15 July 1794.2

     Lady Jane Leslie was born circa 1755. She was the daughter of David Leslie, 8th Earl of Leven and Wilhelmina Nisbet.1 She married Sir John Wishart Stuart of Fettercairn, 4th Bt., son of William Belshes of Tofts and Emilia Stuart Belshes, 3rd Bt., on 9 November 1775.1 She died on 28 October 1829.1
     Her married name became Belshes-Wishart-Stuart.2 From 9 November 1775, her married name became Stuart.1

     Lady Mary Elizabeth Leslie was the daughter of David Leslie, 8th Earl of Leven and Wilhelmina Nisbet.1,2 She married James Ruthven, 6th Lord Ruthven of Freeland, son of James Ruthven, 5th Lord Ruthven of Freeland and Janet Nisbet, on 12 November 1776.2 She died on 7 October 1820.2
     From 12 November 1776, her married name became Ruthven.

James Ruthven, 6th Lord Ruthven of Freeland1

     James Ruthven, 6th Lord Ruthven of Freeland was born on 16 December 1733.1 He was the son of James Ruthven, 5th Lord Ruthven of Freeland and Janet Nisbet.2 He married Lady Mary Elizabeth Leslie, daughter of David Leslie, 8th Earl of Leven and Wilhelmina Nisbet, on 12 November 1776.1 He died on 27 December 1789 at age 56.1
     He gained the rank of Captain in the 12th Foot.1 He succeeded as the 6th Lord Ruthven of Freeland [S., 1651] on 3 July 1783.1 In 1784 he voted unchallenged at elections of representative Scottish peers.1
